University of Macedonia

The University of Macedonia of Economic and Social Sciences, is the 2nd University in Thessaloniki. In 2009, it celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The University of Macedonia has the following Schools and Departments:

• Department of Educational & Social Policy

• Department of Balkan, Slavic & Oriental Studies

There are three interdepartmental postgraduate programmes:
• Master’s in Economics
• Master’s in Business Administration
• Master’s in Information Systems
Moreover, there are the following postgraduates programmes:
• Master’s in Applied Informatics
• Master’s in International Studies
• Master’s in European Youth Policies
• MA in Politics and Economics of Contemporary Eastern and Southeastern Europe
• Executive M.Sc in Accounting & Finance

The academic staff of the University includes Faculty members, specialists, teaching and research assistants and foreign language teachers. The position of a Faculty member requires a Ph.D. degree (or an equivalent) and original published research. New Faculty members are elected on the basis of their academic qualifications by Faculty members of the same or higher rank. Faculty members are aided in their tasks by research and teaching assistants who are, in some cases, holders of a Master’s degree and continue their doctoral studies.

The University of Macedonia is located in Thessaloniki, 156 Egnatia Street. It is housed in a group of buildings with a total area of approximately 40.000 square meters, consisting of amphitheaters, teaching and seminar rooms, offices and the areas of the administration sections, a restaurant, which operates during the whole academic year, a gymnasium and a book-store; also a child-care station will soon be operating. The University has recently added a main auditorium that will become one of the most contemporary Conference Centers with International standards and will also host important cultural events of the city.

By City Bus

Bus services that travel to the University of Macedonia are: 2,7,8,10,12,14,27,31.

Bus service 2 (ΙΚΕΑ-New Railway Station-Via Κ. Κaramanli av.-Egnatia av.)
Travelling from the Railway Station you get off at the bus stop “University of Macedonia” (Egnatia av.) by the main entrance of the University. Coming from the opposite direction, you get off at the bus stop “St. Fotini” (Egnatia av.) , opposite the University (you have to cross the road).

Bus service 7 (Ag. Ioannis-Universities)
Travelling Sidrivaniou Square (Aggelaki str.) you get off at the bus stop “University of Macedonia” (Egnatia av.) by the main entrance of the University. Travelling from St. John-Nea Krini you get off at the bus stop “Stratigio” (Stratou av.). To get to the University you have to go up 3rd September str. towards Egnatia av.

Bus service 8 (ΙΚΕΑ-New Railway Station)
This service is convenient only if you travel from IKEA to the Railway Station. You get off at “St. Fotini” (3rd September str.). You can reach the back entrance of the University by following the Gr. Lampraki str., just opposite to the bus stop.

Bus service 10 (Harilaou-New Railway Station)
This service is convenient only if you travel from the Railway Station to Harilaou. You get off at “St. Fotini” (3rd September str.). You can reach the back entrance of the University by following the Gr. Lampraki str., just opposite to the bus stop.

Bus service 12 (Kato Toumpa-Old Railway Station)
Travelling either from the Railway Station or from Kato Toumpa, you get off at the bus stop “424 G.S.N.E”, at the junction of Kaftatzoglou str. and Egnatia av. You go up the road towards Egnatia av. and you turn left. The main entrance is few meters further down.

Bus service 14 (Ano Toumpa-New Railway Station)
Travelling from the Railway Station you get off at the bus stop “University of Macedonia” (Egnatia av.) by the main entrance of the University. Coming from the opposite direction, you get off at the bus stop “St. Fotini” (Egnatia av.) , opposite the University (you have to cross the road).

Bus service 27 (Stavroupoli-University)
Start and end of this servive is the bus stop “St.Fotini” (3rd September str.). You can reach the back entrance of the University by following the Gr. Lampraki str., just opposite to the bus stop.

Bus service 31 (Voulgari-Bus Station “Macedonia”)
This service is convenient only if you travel from the Bus Station “Macedonia” to Boulgari. The bus stops at “St. Fotini” (3rd September str.). You can reach the back entrance of the University by following the Gr. Lampraki str., just opposite to the bus stop.

By car

In case you choose to get to the University by car you must take into consideration that parking is restricted to permit holders (permanent staff of the University).
