Dear participants,
I would like to welcome you to the 19th Annual Thessaloniki International Student Model United Nations (ThessISMUN) 2020.
ThessISMUN is a successful Model United Nations, UNESCO, International Maritime Organization, Council of Europe and North Atlantic Council, that attracts students from Greek Universities and from all over the world, keen on honing their diplomatic skills. Founded in 2002, it is the only university level Model UN organised in Greece and a supporting one for UN Models in neighbouring countries, as well as Regional Models in other parts of Greece.
Thessaloniki International Student Model United Nations 2020 will take place from April 22 to 26.
ThessISMUN makes it possible for undergraduate and graduate students from around the world to get together for a 5 day youth summit, to simulate discussions of different bodies of the UN and regional organisations and assume the roles of ambassadors. ThessISMUN offers you one of the most cherished educational and social experiences, and is an effective tool to learn about the complexities of the world; how the international community deals with economic and environmental concerns, human rights violations, disarmament, political conflicts and other global issues. A forum where you can enhance communication skills, learn about other countries, study as well as promote democracy, explore conflict resolution and develop techniques of negotiation. It is a forum that prepares the new diplomats and future leaders of the world.
Your participation requires preparation as to the structure and functions of the Organizations to be simulated, the Committees to which you are assigned, the issues on the agenda, the policies of your assigned country concerning these issues and most of all as to the rules of procedure. You must behave as a real diplomat and dress as one. You must be punctual, always focused and very active during the meetings.
I am looking forward to seeing you all in Thessaloniki, on April 22, with the promise of a unique and unforgettable event.
Best regards,
Professor Theodosis Karvounarakis
Chief Academic Officer for ThessISMUN
